The first Mac Pro model with Apple’s silicon chip is now being tested ahead of an expected launch next year, according to Bloombergand Mark Gurman.

The ‌Mac Pro‌ is one of the last Intel-based Mac models still on sale and the only remaining Mac product line without any Apple silicon chip options. A new model that brings Apple silicon to Apple’s top-tier Mac for professionals has been expected for more than two years now. At its “Performance Peek” event earlier this year, Apple even hyped the launch of the silicon Apple Mac Pro, saying “that’s for another day.”

In a recent edition of his newsletter, Gurman said that Apple is continuing work on the first silicon Apple ‌Mac Pro‌, and the company is reportedly testing the device internally. The high-end Mac desktop is said to have chip options that are at least two to four times as powerful as the M2 Max, called “‌M2‌ Ultra” and “‌M2‌ Extreme”. Gurman expects the Mac Pro to be offered with options for 24 and 48 CPU cores and 76 and 152 graphics cores, as well as up to 256GB of memory.

He added specific information about a specific ‌Mac Pro‌ configuration that is apparently under active testing inside Apple: a model with 24 CPU cores (including 16 performance cores and eight effect cores), 76 graphics cores, and 192GB of memory. The machine is said to be running macOS Ventura 13.3.

While he doesn’t expect the new Mac Pro to ship until next year, Gurman said he expects the next-generation MacBook Pro and Mac mini models to ship “within the next few months.”
