Don’t cancel your Xbox Game Pass subscription just yet. Here’s how to fix the 0x800700e9 error on Windows.
The Xbox Game Pass is Microsoft’s popular subscription service for games. However, some users encounter error 0x800700e9 when they try to download and install Xbox Game Pass titles through the Xbox app or Microsoft Store. The error code 0x800700e9 message says “Something unexpected happened,” which doesn’t give any hint on how to fix that issue.
Users are unable to download and install Xbox Game Pass content due to error 0x800700e9. However, you can fix the 0x800700e9 error with these potential resolutions.
1. Run the Microsoft Store App Troubleshooter
The Windows Store App troubleshooter may help correct the 0x800700e9 error. Here’s how you can access the Windows Store App troubleshooter in Windows 11:
- Use one of the many ways to launch the Settings app.
- Click on the Troubleshooting a box with a spanner icon on it.
- Next, click Other troubles to access the Settings app’s list of troubleshooting tools.
- Choose Run to activate Windows Store applications.
- Apply any suggestions provided by the troubleshooter.
The Windows 10 troubleshooters are available within the Update & Security Settings category. Click on the Troubleshooting tab in that category and select Additional troubleshooting. Then you can select Windows Store Apps from there and click Run to access the tool.
2. Turn on Delivery Optimization in Settings
Delivery Optimization is a service that enables Windows Update downloads from other PCs. Error 0x800700e9 often occurs when Delivery Optimization is disabled in Windows. You can turn on Delivery Optimization through Settings like this:
- Open the Windows update tab in Settings.
- Click Advanced options to see more settings.
- Select the Delivery Optimization navigation option.
- Turn on the Allow downloads from other computers option to enable Delivery Optimization.
- Click on the Devices on my local network radio button.
You can enable Delivery Optimization in Windows 10’s Settings app much the same. However, you will have to choose the Windows update category. Then click on the Delivery optimization tab in the Windows update category to access and turn on the same Allow downloads from other computers arrangement.
3. Enable optimization of BITS Delivery and Services
Some Xbox Game Pass users have resolved error 0x800700e9 by enabling and running the Delivery Optimization and BITS services. You can enable and start those services through that app as follows:
- To access Run, press Win + R.
- Type services.msc inside Run’s Open order box.
- Choose Okay to open Services.
- Double-click the Delivery Optimization service.
- Choose Begin if it is not running.
- Click Automatic on Delivery Optimization Startup type menu.
- Choose Submit an application > Okay to save the new settings of the service.
- Repeat steps four to seven for the Smart Background Switch service.
If the services are already running, try restarting them. Right click on the services and select their Stop choices. You can then restart those services by right-clicking on them and selecting them Start again.
4. Enable Delivery Optimization through the Windows Registry
If the above methods did not work for you, try enabling the Delivery Optimization service by editing the program. You can back up the program or set a restore point before editing the program if you want to be extra careful. To implement this possible solution, edit the DoSvc key like this:
- First, bring up Registry Editor, which you can open with one of the methods in our guide on how to open Regedit.
- Click inside the address bar at the top of the Registry Editor and delete the current key location.
- Input this DoSvc main location in the address bar and drop Come back:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DoSvc
- Select the DoSvc key, and right-click on the Begin Select DWORD Change.
- Input 3 in the Value box and click Okay.
- Exit Regedit, and restart the computer.
5. Reset or Repair the Xbox App
Many users go through the Xbox app to access their Xbox Game Pass titles on Windows. So, you might be able to fix the error 0x800700e9 by choosing Reset and Repair options for the Xbox app inside Settings.

6. Reset the Microsoft Store Cache
Corrupted data in the Microsoft Store cache can cause download and installation problems for apps available on the Microsoft online store. So, resetting the Store cache could be another possible solution to the 0x800700e9 error. Try resetting the Microsoft Store cache in the following steps:
- Bring up the Windows Search by clicking the magnifying glass or Search box on your taskbar.
- Type WSReset.exe within the search box to find that Run command file.
- Click WSReset.exe to run the command.
- Wait for MS Store to open automatically, and then try to download Xbox Game Pass titles again.
7. Reinstall the Microsoft Store
Reinstalling the Microsoft Store can fix deeper issues with that app that may be causing the 0x800700e9 error. Although you can’t choose to uninstall the Microsoft Store, you can still reinstall that app with a PowerShell command. Here are the steps to reinstall the Microsoft Store via PowerShell:
- Bring up Run with the Win + R keyboard shortcut, and input PowerShell within the text box.
- Right-click PowerShell to bring up a context menu, and select the Run as administrator option.
- Run this PowerShell command to reinstall Microsoft Store:
Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.WindowsStore | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
- Wait for the command to finish, and then exit the command app.
8. Reset Your Network
Sometimes error 0x800700e9 occurs due to network issues. A network reset is a good way to solve problems in this area; however, note that this will return your network components to their factory defaults and destroy your Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections.
